Wedding Planning Checklist for Lucknow, Month by Month

A Lucknow wedding has a lot of moving parts: two families, several functions, a muhurat fixed by the pandit, a baraat route, and a guest list that keeps growing. The families who actually enjoy their own wedding are usually the ones who started early and worked through it in order. This checklist is laid out month by month, starting about a year before the date. If you have less time, don't panic. Start at the stage you are in and finish the earlier items first, in the order given — the order matters more than the calendar.

Wedding Planning Checklist for Lucknow, Month by Month

Ten to twelve months before

This is the stage for the decisions everything else hangs on. Get these right and the rest of the year is a matter of ticking boxes.

  • Ask the family pandit to match the kundlis and suggest muhurat dates, with one or two backups.
  • Agree on a rough budget with both families, and who is paying for which function.
  • Draw up a first guest list for each function, not just the main day.
  • Decide the style — banquet hall, lawn, hotel, resort, farmhouse or heritage venue.
  • Shortlist venues and visit them in the evening, when you can judge the lighting, parking and approach road.
  • Book the venue and the main caterer as soon as the date is fixed.

Seven to nine months before

In Lucknow the cooler months fill up first. If your date falls on a popular winter muhurat, the next round of bookings should not wait — good photographers and baraat bands are booked out for those dates well in advance.

  • Book the photographer and videographer; ask to see complete wedding albums, not just highlight reels.
  • Book décor for the main day: mandap, stage, entry and lighting.
  • Plan the baraat — ghodi or baggi, band and dhol, and the route from the janwasa to the venue.
  • Decide which pre-wedding functions you will hold — roka, tilak, haldi, mehendi, sangeet, cocktail — and where.
  • Start outfit shopping; many families still head to Aminabad and Chowk for fabric, chikankari and wedding shopping.
  • Plan rooms if many relatives are travelling in from out of town.

Four to six months before

Now the plan turns into a guest experience. This is when the smaller bookings — the ones that make a wedding feel looked-after — come in.

  • Finalise the guest list and order invitation cards, whether printed, boxed or a video e-invite.
  • Book mehendi artists for the bride and guests, a sangeet choreographer, the DJ and an anchor.
  • Taste the caterer's menu and lock it, including live counters and desserts.
  • Book guest transport — coaches, tempo travellers, and pickups from Charbagh station and the airport.
  • Book the couple's car or vintage car, plus car decoration and the vidaai car.
  • Schedule the pre-wedding shoot around good weather and soft light.

Two to three months before

This is also the right time to talk to the pandit about the vidhi for each ritual, so you know what the mandap needs, how long the pheras take, and which family members have a role.

  • Send invitations, out-of-town guests first.
  • Confirm every vendor in writing: date, reporting time, hours, and exactly what is included.
  • Order return gifts, shagun trays, potli bags and dry-fruit boxes.
  • Buy pooja samagri, malas and wedding essentials early so nothing is bought in a rush — Hari Store stocks most of these.
  • Write a function-by-function timeline and share it with both families.
  • Book outfit fittings, jewellery collection, and hair and makeup trials.

The last month

The final month is about confirming, not deciding. Resist the temptation to add new functions or change the décor now; every late change creates three new problems.

  • Give the final head count to the caterer and the venue.
  • Reconfirm baraat timings with the band, ghodi and venue, and ask about road restrictions on the route.
  • Pay balances as agreed and keep every receipt in one folder.
  • Pack a ritual box: samagri, kalash, coconut, kalava, roli, rice, and whatever the pandit lists.
  • Name one point person from each family to handle vendors on the day.
  • Make an emergency kit — safety pins, tape, medicines, chargers, cash for small expenses.

The last week and the wedding day

In the last week, send each vendor the final timeline with the venue address, a map pin and a contact number. Check the weather; a sudden winter shower or dense fog can affect an outdoor setup or an early-morning baraat. Get some sleep — the bride and groom especially.

On the day itself, the bride and groom should not be answering vendor calls. That is what the point persons, or a day-of coordinator, are for. Keep the timeline printed, start the baraat on time, and let the pandit set the pace of the rituals.

After the wedding

Most families forget this stage. It takes a weekend, and finishing it properly means the album actually arrives instead of sitting half-edited for months.

  • Settle any remaining balances and collect final bills.
  • Return rented items — jewellery sets, outfits, décor props.
  • Choose photos for the album and agree on a delivery date with the photographer.
  • Send thank-you messages to the people who helped.

FAQQuestions people ask

We only have three months. Is that enough to plan a wedding in Lucknow?

Yes, if you decide quickly. Lock the venue, caterer and photographer in the first two weeks, then the baraat and décor. Keep the guest list and number of functions modest, and consider day-of coordination so the family is not running everything on the day.

What should we book first?

The venue and caterer for the main function, as soon as the muhurat is fixed. In the winter season these sell out first, followed by photographers and baraat bands for the popular dates.

Who decides the wedding date and muhurat?

Your family pandit, after looking at the kundlis. Ask for one or two backup dates as well, so that if your first-choice venue is taken you still have options.

Can Hari Event handle the whole checklist for us?

Yes. We offer complete wedding planning as well as day-of coordination. Send a request by Book Now, WhatsApp or a call; we call back, understand the wedding, and send a written quote listing what is included. The date is confirmed when the advance on that quote is paid.
