Pre-Wedding Shoot Locations in Lucknow: Where and When
Lucknow is one of the easiest cities in north India for a pre-wedding shoot. Within a short drive you have Nawabi monuments full of arches and domes, colonial ruins set in lawns, vast sandstone parks, a riverfront, and old-city lanes bursting with colour. The trick is matching the place to the look you want, and planning around light, crowds and rules. This guide covers the well-known spots couples ask about most, what each is good for, and the practical side of shooting there. One note before you fall in love with a location: permissions, entry timings and camera rules at monuments and parks may apply and can change, so always check before the day.

Old Lucknow: Bara Imambara, Rumi Darwaza and Husainabad
The heritage stretch around the Bara Imambara is the first place most couples think of. The Rumi Darwaza, the great ornamental gateway beside it, gives you the classic Lucknow frame. A short way along are the Chota Imambara with its domes and chandeliers, the Husainabad clock tower and the unfinished Satkhanda tower. Together they offer arches, symmetry, old brick and stucco — perfect for lehengas, sherwanis and anything regal.
These are busy places and the Imambaras are religious sites, so plan with respect. Arrive early in the morning, before visitors fill the courtyards. Dress modestly, follow footwear rules, keep poses graceful, and ask at the gate what is allowed for a professional camera crew. Many couples shoot the Rumi Darwaza from the road and the open areas around it, which avoids most of the crowd.
The Residency and Dilkusha Kothi
If you want a softer, period-film feel, the ruins of the Residency are hard to beat: weathered red brick, broken walls, old trees and wide lawns. The light filtering through the arches on a winter morning is beautiful, and the open grounds give the photographer room to work with long lenses.
Dilkusha Kothi, towards the cantonment side, is another favourite — the shell of a European-style mansion standing in open ground. It suits flowing outfits, western looks and dramatic wide frames. Both places are historic sites, so check entry timings and whether tripods, reflectors or lights need permission.
Ambedkar Park, Janeshwar Mishra Park and the Gomti riverfront
On the Gomti Nagar side, the scale changes. Ambedkar Memorial Park is all polished sandstone, long symmetrical walkways and rows of carved elephants — bold and graphic, wonderful for wide shots where the couple is small against the architecture. Janeshwar Mishra Park, by contrast, is green and open, with lawns, trees and water that suit relaxed, candid sessions.
The Gomti riverfront is the place for sunset frames and silhouettes, and Lohia Park works for a quiet, leafy look. Large public parks often have fixed visiting hours and their own rules for professional equipment, so confirm these in advance and plan to finish before the evening crowd arrives.
Hazratganj and Kaiserbagh
Hazratganj's old façades, arcades and lamp posts give a vintage, city-romance mood. The trick is timing: early morning, before shops open and traffic builds, is the only time the street is really yours. A vintage car parked along the road completes the look.
Kaiserbagh, nearby, has remnants of the old palace complex with white-washed buildings and Nawabi details, and it suits a heritage look with fewer crowds than the Imambaras. Ask your photographer about the current access process for the buildings you want.
Chowk and the old-city lanes
For something less posed, the lanes of Chowk are full of life — chikan shops, colourful doors, kulhad chai, rickshaws and old havelis. This works best as a candid, story-style shoot with a small crew and one easy outfit.
Be considerate: these are working markets and homes. Ask shopkeepers before you use their shopfront, avoid blocking the lane, and keep lights and reflectors to a minimum. Mornings are calmer; evenings are crowded but full of atmosphere if you can manage the people.
When you want privacy: studios, farmhouses and vintage cars
Not every couple is comfortable with an audience. A studio gives full control over light and backgrounds and doesn't depend on weather. A farmhouse on the outskirts, along Sultanpur Road or near Bakshi Ka Talab, gives you lawns, fields and a private setting for several outfit changes. A vintage car session adds a prop that photographs well almost anywhere.
Many couples combine one heritage location in the morning with a farmhouse or studio in the afternoon — public drama, then privacy.
Planning the day
Pack water, snacks, a small mirror and comfortable footwear to walk between frames. A relaxed couple always photographs better than a rushed one.
- Light: shoot in the first two hours after sunrise and the last hour before sunset; Lucknow's midday sun is harsh for most of the year.
- Season: winter gives the softest light but foggy mornings; summer is very hot; monsoon brings greenery and dramatic skies but unpredictable rain.
- Locations: two, or at most three, in a day — travel across the city eats more time than you expect.
- Outfits: one regal, one relaxed, and one for the evening is plenty.
- Permissions: carry ID, ask at the gate, and follow the rules of each site; they may change.
- Drones: they usually need separate permission and are restricted in many parts of the city, so check before planning aerial shots.

DroneFAQQuestions people ask
What is the best time of year for a pre-wedding shoot in Lucknow?
The cooler months give the most comfortable weather and the softest light, which is why most couples choose them. Early-morning fog can come up in mid-winter, so keep some flexibility in your schedule. Monsoon shoots can be beautiful but need a rain plan.
Do we need permission to shoot at monuments and parks?
Casual photography is usually allowed where photography is permitted, but a professional shoot with a crew, tripods or lights may need permission and may have fixed timings. Rules differ by site and change, so check with the site before the day; your photographer will usually know the current process.
How many locations can we cover in one day?
Two comfortably, three at the most. Lucknow's heritage spots and the Gomti Nagar parks are on different sides of the city, and outfit changes and traffic take time.
Can we use a drone for our pre-wedding shoot?
Only where it is allowed. Drones generally need separate permission and are restricted in many areas, including around the airport and sensitive buildings. Plan aerial shots for a private farmhouse or venue where permission is simpler.
